Build A Snowman Kit!

Great no/low cost gift for kids and awesome craft project for those snow days home from school.

Start by gathering your supplies. You will need: 9 or more rocks, black paint (acrylic or outdoor), hot glue gun, 2 sticks (see photo), a saw, branches or straw or something that will work as a broom, rubber bands, ribbon, scissors, and (not pictured below) an egg carton, latex gloves or paint brush, newspaper, one thumbtack or double headed nail, and a hammer.

First paint the rocks. To do this I put on the latex gloves and just dipped the rocks into the paint. Or you can use a paintbrush to paint them if you prefer. Then set them on an egg carton. (setting them directly on newspaper to dry will make the newspaper stick to them)

They look a lot like coal when dry.

Now to the pipe. You need two sticks. One for the pipe and one for its stem.

Start by cutting the pipe from the larger stick. If you do not like pipes you could try a carrot from the pointy end of a stick. Just paint it orange and attach green felt to the end.
Next to attach the handle we need either a double ended nail or a tack. To use the tack wrap in a paper towel place on concrete and smash with a hammer.

Till you can remove the "nail" part of the tack.
Use the hammer to nail the pointy end of the tack into body of the pipe.

Cut your pipe stem.

Attach to the body of the pipe by inserting the non-sharp end of the tack between the bark and the wood of your stem. Or drill a very small hole in the stem for the tack.

Use glue gun to attach fully.
Now the broom. Gather branches, or straw, or bristles from an old broom, whatever you can find.

Cut the top branches off and secure with a rubber band to make a handle.

Decorate handle with Christmas ribbon and cut the brush part in a strait line at the bottom.

Put it all together and you have a snowman kit. You can also add hats, mittens, scarves, buttons, ties and bows. Or anything fun!
