Salt Dough - Recipe, Ideas, Ornaments, and Gifts

Salt Dough
3C. Flour
1C. Salt
1C. Water
Mix Flour and Salt, add water. Kneed well.
Adjust flour/water till right consistency for dough.
Bake at lowest setting for several hours, or air dry for a few days.
(Drying  the dough too quickly may cause air bubbles)

I treasure these two hand prints. They were done when my oldest who is now 12 was 4 and when my middle child who is now 9 was only a year. I have never painted or 'sealed' them in anyway and they are still in great condition. Many fun things can be made with salt dough. Our tree is adorned with homemade gingerbread men and stars. We added cinnamon and ground cloves to our ornaments and when we unpack them each year you can still smell the spices. You can also add coloring to the dough, or paint them once they are dried. Dolls, tea sets, pumpkins, and other holiday decorations can be made from the dough. To make ornaments roll out the dough, cut with your favorite cookie cutter and, before it is baked, pierce a hole to hang it from.

Thanks for sharing this idea and recipe. I am off to the kitchen to whip this up and have our little GS make hand prints and surprise his parents on Christmas Eve with a little gift. I may even have him paint them but on second thought a 3 yr old with a paint brush...not a good thing in his granny's kitchen:)
