A quick, free and easy way to start your seedlings is to fill eggshells with your favorite garden soil and then place them back into their carton. Over a couple of morning breakfasts I poked holes in the tops of these eggs using a butter knife. I then used my fingers to pull off bits of the shell until there was a wide enough hole to fill them with soil and plant a seed. (Rinse with warm water before filling with soil.) Once the seeds sprout and you are ready to plant just crunch up the eggshell a bit and plant it shell and all. Happy Spring!

We put eggshells in our compost, but I never thought of using them as starters for seedlings. It makes perfect sense. I bet it is easy for you to keep track and sort them, too. This would make it so easy for my kids to help plant the seedlings. Instead of worrying about them smashing roots, they just grab the egg.
Thank you for linking up with Try and Tell. What a genius idea!
What a creative idea. I would have never thought of that. Makes me look at egg shells in a whole new way:)
This is such a wonderful idea. We have chickens and lots of eggs. :-)

Great idea... I had heard of using the carton, but not the actual egg. Makes sense! Thanks!
