Smooshed pennies, sea glass, and all the little treasures of life can be stored in a little treasure box!

I bought this box and the treasure box detail on the top from Jo-Anne's Fabric for a couple of dollars. I have seen similar cardboard boxes at Walmart for just a dollar.

In our treasure box is a $2 bill, gold from Alaska, seeds we found on the ground in California, a butterfly from the zoo, a smooshed penny from Disneyland, a pipe cleaner bee from a honey farm we visited, and a button from a field trip we took.
And these little treasures do not have to be just for children! I have a treasure box, too. It contains items such as favors from weddings I have been to, lots of sea glass, a little jade elephant I bought on vacation and a maccaroni bracelet my son gave to me.

This is such a nice idea and it would be lovely to go back and look at the contents in a year or two.
Best wishes,
Natasha.
People who encourage others to declutter always say that you don't have to have the treasure in hand to bring back the memory of what it represents. It's true that you don't, but it makes the memory all the more sweet if you do.
Thanks for sharing some of your treasures with us.

What a great idea! I have been wanting to do hope chests for my girls and help them fill them up. I love this idea!
Hope chests are a great idea! I begged my parents for a hope chest when I was 12. They gave it to me for Christmas. I filled it up with baby and household stuff to be used someday. I also saved my brownies uniform and tap shoes in it. I still have it too, it serves as an end table in my bedroom and it now stores my graduation cap, baby dedication outfits, and other treasured memories.
And Donna, I think "they" are probably correct, but I too think there is something about being able to touch memories that is important. Unless, of corse they are taking over you life. If that is happening, I have heard of taking photos of the items to remember them and then giving them to someone else who will use and treasure them.
