A marker along the Oregon trail these two rocks were compared to the Court House and Jail house in St. Louis Missouri.

One emigrant wrote that "it is difficult to look upon it and not believe that art had something to do with its construction."

Another said "Viewed from the road the beholder might easily imagine that he was gazing upon some ancient structure of the old world."

And another climbed to the top to engrave his name and later said "such a view man seldom sees."

Today it is just a quick stop literally along the road side just outside of Bridgeport Nebraska. This was the closest we were able to get to it. But having seen both this rock and the grand Court House in St. Louis, the town hailed as the gateway to the west and the beginning of the Oregon trail, it is not hard to understand how the comparison was made and I am glad to have seen it in person.
