Halloween costumes from poster boards

Whether you are frugal, like making your own costumes, or (as was our case) your child wants to be a goomba and there are no goomba costumes to be found, poster boards make great costumes!

They do take a little time to draw and cut out evenly, and you have to find or buy the right material, but once you are done this is a costume you and your children will remember for years to come. Here we used one large poster board which cost us $2. From the board I cut out the goombas shape, eye holes, and eye brows. Covered it with brown cloth, a remnant I found on sale for $1. Used craft felt for the whites of the eyes, mouth, teeth and to cover the eyebrows. I found the felt for for .20 cents a sheet. I then cut out eyebrows from the poster board and covered with black felt. The trickiest part was the eyes. From the foam board I cut out large oval doughnut shapes that were larger than the eye holes in the costume and that had large enough centers to see through. I then covered these with material from a black pair of nylons and stretched it over the oval 'doughnuts' through the eye holes and secured it on the back of the foam board with staples and glue.  The nylons cost .50 for a knee high pair.  And before covering the costume with cloth I cut out slits in the body of the costume and attached old piece of ribbon so the costume could be worn instead of carried.

For about five dollars, I think this may just be the best costume we have had yet!
No, wait... the head to toe Winnie the Poo costume, was probably better.
