Testing the Christmas Lights {From My Calendar}

This week from
we test the Christmas lights

My oldest son picked these lights out, saying they reminded him of sugar plums. (Isn't that cute?) But when I went to test them today I found that half the string isn't working. This is why I test the lights early. Now I have choices. Find the rogue bulb and replace it? Maybe its a fuse? Maybe we want to keep our eyes open for other new and fun strands of lights?

Do you know where your Christmas lights are? If you are like me and love to have your Christmas tree up early, now is the time to wrangle up those lights and test them out.

Still curious why I do this so early? See my post about my christmas-crazy neighbor here.

I don't think it's early at all. My mom (used to) start decorating right after Halloween. She used to decorate every inch of the first floor of the house. It simply just took her that long to be able to get everything up in time, so if she didn't start early she wouldn't finished before Thanksgiving. For Thanksgiving we love to have the Christmas decorations up already and mom would usually have everything up except for the big Christmas tree (which she would put up Thanksgiving weekend). For the past few years she's been slowing backing off of different decorations, eliminating certain spaces and eventually entire rooms. She's just too tired to do all of that now. This year will be the least decorations ever with only a tree in the foyer and the bannister decorated. Still, she's going to start to decorate this week.

My husband and I usually get our tree put up the first week of December, but then we don't take it down until Easter. Just because we're lazy. Hopefully this year we'll take it down before February ;)
