I needed a little filler for the gift baskets I am putting together for family this year, something easy but fun and yummy. So I made up some little star shaped cakes and they are so easy to make.
I mixed up a single cake mix and poured batter in the pan till I had a single layer about 1/2 inch high.
Next, I took a 1'' star shaped cookie cutter and cut out little stars. Any holiday shaped cutter would do and if you don't have any you could make a template from paper and carefully cut out shapes.
I then mixed about a cup and a half of powdered sugar with water to make a glaze.
Added water a little at a time till I had a thick but pour-able mixture.
Drizzled glaze over the stars. And (important) let the glaze dry before packaging.
To package I cut small circles from paper plates, made a little pyramid of star cake bites, wrapped, and tied a ribbon.
I have now set these in the freezer until I am ready to put the gift baskets together. Cake freezes really well. It will also keep for a few days without out freezing, but because the edges are cut it is important to keep them wrapped up or they will dry out.
Happy baking!

Oh, I love this idea. I love the little drizzle on top. It makes it easier to package than frosting, and it looks pretty too.
