Christmas decorating ideas - The Creche

Celebrating the birth of a King
This is the theme I like to cary through out my decorating at Christmas.
This is a little tea light candle holder on our side table.

I collect willow tree figurines and over a couple of Christmas's this set was gifted to me by my sweet husband and children.

I love Joseph's hand over his heart.

Mary's sweet gaze.

This set is a set we have for our children
It is one that they are welcome to arrange and play with.

I love letting children arrange the pieces. One Christmas my boys had every figure, including the animals in a perfect circle around the baby Jesus. As adults we like to arrange the figures exactly as they look in the photo on the box, but on the night of Jesus's birth I am pretty sure they probably were in a circle around the manger looking in!

OK, just a bit of fun here:
This was our first manger scene back when my children were babies. We took legos and wrapped ribbon around them to make robes. We had a set of wise men too, but they have since been reclaimed to the bottom of the toy box.

And  thanks to an idea I found on a couple of blogs, this year we have a new tradition. We are placed an empty crib next to the tree and will lay a baby doll in it on Christmas morning.

This the centerpiece on our table.

Looking in closer you can see the creche on the bottom level.

The shepherds with their sheep on the next two levels up.

And the angles 'heralding' the arrival of our king.

aww thank you for your comment! I am going to be following your blog now :)
I love my willow tree nativity, in fact i love everything of hers and everything else that I have of hers!
I really like yours and how you have it arranged, I hope to get the creche so that I can use it next year!
My mom already bought me a camera since it was the only thing i KNEW that I wanted this year, she refuses to give it to me until a day or two before christmas, so that i can actually use it on christmas. I had two good ones previously but both of them ended up breaking so I havent had anything aside from our Droid phones since about Jan/Feb. so I definatly cannot WAIT for my camera. I am crossing my fingers that you get one too!!!

Jessa, I'm new to Willow Tree figurines and find them beautiful, what a great gift! I'm especially fond of the figures holding the sheep! This party has made me realize that I don't have any angels... gotta work on that! Thanks for joining in:@)

Jessa, I love your Nativities! Especially the centerpiece and of course the Legos :)

My mom has a beautiful collection of many Nativities and I've been hoping to adopt them since she's been backing off decorating lately...but I don't really have many surfaces in my house to put them :( I have two that I'm going to put up once I get my decorating act together. One if them is a small plastic Nativity that's been around since I was little and I just love seeing it every year. Except I'm afraid my daughter might swallow the baby Jesus! Good thing I don't have to put him in there until Christmas day!

I am loving the Lego nativity for sure. Those Willow Tree people are so gorgeous. My daughter collects them and I really should think about getting her that nativity.

Blessings!

love the lego nativity characters. But, such a wonderful idea to place the empty basket next to the nativity scene. I had not seen this. Thanks for sharing.
Have a wonderful Christmas.

Love your Willow Tree nativity, Jessa Irene, and also your children's nativity. The empty crib with the baby appearing on Christmas morning is a precious tradition.
Hugs, Beth
