Creating Beautiful Beds

Just a little tour of the beds in my home and what I know about making them nice.

This is the bed in our master bedroom. It had to be elegant for me, but also something my husband would like so we settled on this inexpensive comforter and sheet set.

This is my teenager's bed, can you tell a teenager made this bed?

We gave these sheets to my tween at Christmas time, and because he loves penguins he only ever wants these sheets on his bed. So it is Christmas all year long for him.

Even a baby's bed can be wonderful.
Just some light covers for my toddler, I dress him in jamies for bed which are almost enough by themselves, but he is old enough now for a cover too.

Some tricks I have learned:
  • To get ideas I look through furnature catalogs.
  • Place your top sheet print side down when making the bed so when you fold back the covers you see the print.
  • You do not need an expensive set to have a nice bed. Most box stores, and places like Ross sell inexpensive sets that will make a bed wonderful.
  • Buy the proper size pillow for the pillow case.
  • A look at the pattern on the back of the comforter you choose. You see this pattern when folding back the covers.
  • A lot of people like loads of pillows on their beds, but I have found with kids, these pillows end up everywhere and only add to clutter. Two proper size pillows are enough to give you bed a nice look.
  • Often when people do the fancy pillow thing, they hide their regular pillow under a nicer one until bed time.

4th of July Tablescape

A picnic basket filled to the brim with stars and stripes seemed a fun way to decorate for this holiday.

My petal plates reminded me of stars. They are set on our blue everyday plates.

Some mismatched stars and stripes napkins. (above and below)

Little flag garland as a table runner.

And just for show some cute little coasters for the glassware.

Happy 4th of July!

Vacation Idea #25 - Ziplining

WISH i was on HOLIDAY

- Vacation Idea #25 -
Ziplining

Inspired by This Post at Attalife when we took our vacation to Whistler this last April we just had to go ziplining, or at least the boys did, I was too chicken.

They had a blast and will never forget
 the experience!

To start they take you on a test line (to make sure you are not too chicken). After that it is the real thing. A zillion feet up (yes, I am sure it was a zillion) over a beautiful river.

And we discovered something, the kiddo we thought might be the most chicken,
Turned out to be the bravest!

We went with Ziptrek's Ecotours and also did their Treetop hike (you can see my post about that here). To find ziplines in your area a good directory can be found at Canopytours.com.
(I am not affiliated with these sites, just sharing them for fun).

No-Sew 4th of July Tees

Do you remember THESE t-shirts for Fathers day
That were inspired by THIS post at A Girl With A Gluegun? Go look and come back, I'll wait.

I took off the letters, washed the shirts, and hot glued some inexpensive little flags to them. (The flags cost $1 for a pack of 4).
I think they are even cuter with flags!

4th of July in my Neighborhood

Share your 4th of July ideas with us!
Around here our celebration starts with sparklers.
Swirls, streaks, letters.
And then because we live in a state where you can light your own fireworks we set off a few in the driveway.

I remember this one being really loud.

This one was MUCH smaller than it looks in the photo, I managed to capture it at just the right moment.

Then we settle in with extended family and watch the show at the fairgrounds from our back deck.

They really do a great job!

Vacation Idea #24- Independence Rock

WISH i was on HOLIDAY

- Vacation Idea #24 -
Independence Rock
Wyoming

One giant rock located in Southwest Wyoming was a marker for those that traveled the Oregon trail. The emigrants tried to reach this rock by the 4th of July to make sure they were on track to reach Oregon before the cold weather of fall set in.
Today it is a state park, in Wyoming. We visited this site with extended family, the cute little girl in this photo is my niece.

The land around the rock is flat, beautiful, Wyoming land.

When you walk up to this rock you realise its full 130 feet of height.

You follow a mown path around the rock.

On the side you find plaques and inscriptions marking the emigrants who traveled here.

Near the back we found a spot to climb to the top. The top of the rock is the best place to view inscriptions. It is a bit tricky to climb up and get back down again, we took our children, but made them stay low and close to us. And though it was quite a memory maker for them, having done it, I do not recommend taking children to the top, 130 feet up is quite a height. Adults, however, should definitely go! (Even if you have to take turns watching kids). Some of the best undisturbed signatures and engravings can be found at the top.

View of Oregon trail from the top of Independence rock.

Back down on the ground on the far side we saw this iron fence, I think it must surround a grave but there are no markers.

You can see more about this amazing historical land mark at wikipedia, and the stateparks website.

Father's Day Ideas

First I wanted to share the great Father's Day gift idea I found on HowDoesShe?
If your hubby wears shirts and ties to work he is going to love this. We are soooo doing it!
(I hope my hubby doesn't read this).

If you need planning ideas or want to see how to make these cute little cards you can see my post HERE.

A personalized gift is a great way to say 'I love you'.
I found this idea at a cute little 'handmade' online shop:
 LisaLeonardOnline.com.
(This link is NOTsponsored, just passing it along for fun:)

Here is the Father's Day breakfast tray we have set up.

And HERE are some easy no-sew t-shirts for Father's day.

Or KIDNAP him!

Need: To prepare for Father's Day? A camping checklist? Summer "screen time" redeemable certificates for the kiddo's? Family vacation and outing ideas?
