Bird's Nest Craft ~ Tutorial

A simple to make birds nest from twigs, moss, and mod podge!

I started with a small bowl, line it with saran wrap, and then place some twigs in a circular pattern, leaving the budded ends to the edge. Tip: If you do not live in an area with lots of twigs, you could also use straw, dried grasses or even raffia.

Next I used a paint brush to drizzle mod podge over the sticks.

Then using moss from the dollar store,

I lined the inside of the nest.

And drizzled more mod podge on the inside of the nest.

A few more twigs placed in for effect.
Let dry overnight. Then remove from bowl, carefully peel off the plastic wrap. Turn the bowl upside down and rest the nest upside down on the bowl for another day.

If you have used enough glue it will dry pretty solidly. If, once dry, it is still delicate you may want to reinforce with hot glue or use more mod podge and allow to dry again.

And they look wonderful just about anywhere:

The eggs in the nest are handcrafted as well, you can see my tutorial hereEaster Egg Crafts.

*I have added this post look what I made at aThriftyMom.com:

Great idea. I love nature type things to add to my decorations. I have always wanted to do a small Christmas treree in birds and nests. Now I can not use the excuse that I can not find enough nests. thanks for the great directions.

Great idea! I can't wait to try this. I already have lots of nests that I've purchased, but am looking forward to making some. I hope this morning's snow melts soon so I can find some sticks.

I'm visiting from Sunday Showcase and am following. You have a great blog!

I love this idea! I love bird nests, but never bring them indoors because of the pests living in them. Great way to make a piece of nature for your home!

Also, thanks for following me at Turning a House into a Home! I'm following you now, too.

Great job! I tried this before with straw from outdoors and it just didn't hold up. I think the moss is what makes it work. Thanks for sharing- I may try again!
